Newborn Toys (0-3 months)

Newborn Toys (0-3 months)

Newborn babies are just the most precious thing!  So new and fragile.

It’s easy to get caught up in thinking that its only nappies feeding and sleeping during this time, and well yes, let’s be honest that is a major part of it. But believe it or not, play is still very important during this time.  Our children actually play from the moment they are born and it’s how they learn about themselves and their world.  Playtime aids your babies cognitive and physical development along with emotional and social growth.

At this very young age it’s all about simply engaging with their senses.  You want to look for safe and simple toys that will help them reach the basic first milestones such as smiling, making eye contact, following objects with their eyes, turning their head towards sounds.

Musical toys designed for a Newborn (0-3 months) are great for helping with hearing and working towards acknowledging a sound. We love the Hape range for this, there are some really cute options.

Toys with different textures are great for stimulating the sense of touch – a great way to test out if a toy is good for that sensory play is to close your eyes and see what you feel.  If you only get one texture or feeling, then it’s not going to be the best option for touch sensory play.  Wooden toys are fantastic for this as the feel is more interesting to little babies.

Floor mats are great for some floor time and giving your Newborn something to focus on and engage their sense of sight.  These are also a helpful tool for tummy time when you baby is ready.

Our team at The Toy Wagon really understand what this time with a Newborn means for a family, it’s both amazing and challenging.  We hope our range of toys specifically designed for this very precious stage, provide some helpful tools to make the most of the magic.
